Concerns

It is common for patients to avoid the dentist because of fear or anxiety.  Many are afraid that the treatment will be painful.  Unfortunately this often leads to poor dental health and uncomfortable and embarrassing conditions.  Dr. Church and his staff understand the anxiety that surrounds visiting the dentist. They are experienced in giving personal attention to individual concerns.   Dr. Church uses a technique which alleviates pain during injections, and is gentle and careful to assure that each dental experience is as comfortable as possible.

Frequently asked questions regarding dental concerns:

Headaches

“I have constant headaches, especially after sleeping.”

Many people experience chronic or painful symptoms but do not realize that the pain may be caused by a treatable dental condition.  Headaches, migraines and neck pain are often connected with dysfunction in the Temporomandibular Joints (TMJ) or misalignment of the bite.  These conditions can also cause clinching or grinding while the patient is sleeping (or awake, or both), which results in headaches, muscle tension and harmful stress on the teeth structure.  Dr. Church is specially trained to diagnose and treat pain related to TMJ dysfunction and misalignment of the bite, and to help patients prevent further discomfort and dysfunction.

Cosmetic Dentistry

I am embarrassed of my smile and would like to make cosmetic change.”

Missing Teeth

“I am missing some or all of my teeth.”

There are many options for replacing missing teeth:

  • Dental Implants – a permanent solution for tooth loss and they have a 96% success rate. Implants duplicate or match your natural teeth extremely well.
  • Dental Bridges – used to replace one or more missing teeth, dental bridges are permanently anchored to your neighboring teeth. Dr. Church’s expertise is preparing crowns and bridges to look and feel natural, as well as to provide a stable and reliable chewing structure and bite function.
  • Dentures and Partial Dentures – a good solution, and advances in dental materials make today’s dentures look and feel more like natural teeth than ever before.

Sore Gums

“My gums are sore and bleed when I brush or floss.”

It is possible that you have periodontal disease, or gum disease. Gum disease affects 3 out of 4 American adults and is the leading cause of tooth loss. If identified early, treatment for gum disease can be very minimal. In some cases, however, surgical treatment may be required, especially if tooth loss has occurred. Gum disease can be prevented by brushing and flossing regularly and by routine visits to the dentist.

Teeth Grinding

“I grind my teeth in my sleep.”

Teeth grinding can be a sign of a temporomandibular joint  (TMJ) disorder.  Dr. Church has special experience working with TMJ disorders and can examine your condition to make recommendations for repairing instability as well as any damage that may have been caused.

Snoring

“I am concerned about my snoring and possible sleep apnea.”

Snoring and sleep apnea can often be treated using oral appliance therapy. Splints and night guards help to maintain proper jaw position and keep airways open to prevent snoring and sleep apnea. Ask Dr. Church to educate you regarding this issue, and to construct the proper appliance for you.

Tooth Decay

“How do you treat tooth decay?”

If you already have cavities, or if your teeth are showing signs of decay, Dr. Church offers a range of dental services to provide stability and protection to effected teeth. Cosmetic fillings, fillings that are tooth colored, are frequently used to treat teeth with early stages of tooth decay. Other options are inlays, onlays and dental crowns. Dr. Church is committed to use his expertise in diagnosing in order to perform the most conservative treatment necessary.
